Sound insulation is one of the most important indicators, usually taken into account by consumers in construction in general and when choosing stretch ceilings in particular. This design itself has some sound -absorbing abilities. However, this, as a rule, is not enough. To enhance the effect, you have to use additional materials. In modern construction, several main “isolators” are used to absorb the noise. Among them: a variety of polystyrene types, glass wools, as well as a foam. We will try to figure out which of these materials are better suited for the task.
Wood -fiber slabs, for example, quite a dozen material. However, its protective indicators are also high. Due to the porous structure, such plates “breathe”, in addition, it is a completely environmentally friendly material. In addition to the high price, the slabs have another significant drawback – they are unstable to ignition. The sound insulation index of a layer of such a coating is very high, and reaches from 35 to 65 dB.
The most common material for the sound insulation of ceilings is mineral wool. Unlike the previous material, it does not support combustion and decay. Also, such a layer weighs very little. However, such an insulator slowly oxidizes metal structures, which is not too good for the stretch ceiling itself. Medium insulation index-27-42 dB.
Glass wool is most often used for sound insulation due to its low cost. In addition, delivery costs are reduced – after all, glass wool can be freely compressed and pressed. With its thermo characteristics, it is approximately equal to mineral wool. Among the disadvantages of this material is a significant absorbing ability. That is – it is clearly not worth wetting it. The insulating index is also equal to the mineral wool index – up to 42 dB.
Polystyrene isolation layer, in addition to advantages in the form of low weight and thermal conductivity, still has more minuses. For example, brittleness and possible content of harmful substances. In addition, the temperature threshold for these materials is still limited – up to 75 degrees. Polistyle foam has a fairly low degree of sound insulation. The index is only 20-23 dB.
